February Lunch & Learn Event: Metroparks Toledo Audubon Island Restoration

On Wednesday, February 4th, from 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM, join us for our February Lunch and Learn Event. At this event, Zuri Carter, Chief Natural Resources Officer for Metroparks Toledo, will present on the restoration of Audubon Island. Lunch will be provided along with 1 CPD hour.

The event will be held at the Brookwood Metropark Lodge, 5604 Swan Creek Dr., Toledo, OH 43614.

January Family Fun Event: Toledo Pickle Co.

On Sunday, February 15th, the ASCE Toledo Section will be hosting a family fun event. The event will be held at Toledo Pickle Co. This facility is affiliated with the metroparks and has food and pickleball facilities inside. The event will run from 3 PM to 6 PM. We will have access to the championship court for 2 hours. Buffet will be set up and include the following foods and non-alcoholic drinks:

  • Pulled pork and cheeseburger sliders

  • Pizzas

  • Chicken nuggets

  • Whipped feta with house-made pita chips

  • Tony Packo’s fried pickles

  • Cauliflower bites

Registration for the event will close at noon on February 11th. Price will be $30 per adult and $15 per student. Please register using the button below and pay using our PayPal below, or by cash/check at the event.

The webinar will be hosted on GoToMeeting. This presentation will begin at 12:00pm. This event will be free of charge.

On November 12th, the Ohio Northern Student Chapter hosted their annual joint chapter meeting. This meeting included Student Chapter Awards along with a presentation on the CR99/I75 Interchange Project by ODOT District 1 Deputy Director Chris Hughes.

At the meeting, the annual student scholarship was awarded to Stacey Legg, along with the annual grant to the student chapter. There were 43 students in attendance! We also had 12 professionals.

This was our October “Lunch and Learn” event, where Mark Salveter, P.E., Region Engineer for Western Ohio and Kentucky of Geopier, along with Greg Buhoveckey, P.E., Associate/Project Manager for the Mannik and Smith Group, Inc., presented on CPT vs. SPT and the geotechnical applications in poor soil conditions.

This event was held at the office of the Mannik and Smith Group, Inc. in Maumee, Ohio. Lunch as well as 1 CPD hour was provided for all in attendance. There were 32 professionals (including the speakers) in attendance at this event.

Central Avenue Cleanup

This was our Central Avenue Cleanup event, where we collaborated with our student chapters to pick up trash along Central Avenue between Secor Road and Douglas Road. Immediately following the cleanup, all participants were invited to meet at Buffalo Wild Wings on Central Avenue for lunch, provided by ASCE Toledo Section. There were 3 professionals and 11 students in attendance at this event.

On Wednesday, September 24th, we will be held our September “Lunch and Learn” Meeting. Michael Stormer, P.E, of Colliers Engineering & Design, presented on the Holloway Rd. and Salisbury Rd. Roundabout Project. Design of the project was handled by Colliers on behalf of the Lucas County Engineer’s Office.

The meeting was held at Brookwood MetroPark Lodge. We had 30 attendess attend the meeting. Overall it was a successful meeting for all attendees.

2024-2025 Annual Awards Banquet

On Wednesday, May 14th we held our 2024-2025 annual awards. Our Engineer of the Year was awarded to Steve Lange, P.E. and the Project of the Year was awarced to the Ford Road Pump Station Project. Following the presentation of the Engineer of the Year and Project of the Year Awards there was a presentation on the design and development of the Ford Road Pump Station Replacement by Ted Bennett, P.E.

The meeting was held at the Secor Room at the Secor Metropark (10001 W. Central Ave., Berky, OH 43504). The meeting had 32 attendees. This will be our last meeting until September. We would like to thank everyone for their support so far this year and we cannot wait to see you all once the summer months are over!

Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority Meeting

On Thursday, April 17th we held a meeting with the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority as our presenter. Joe Cappel and Brian Perz provided an overview of Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority’s seaport as well as discussing some of their recent capital improvement projects.

The meeting was held at the Brookwood Metropark Lodge (5604 Swan Creek Dr., Toledo, OH 43614). We had 30 attendees.

UToledo Joint Chapter Meeting

On Thursday March 13th, we held our annual UToledo Joint Chapter Meeting with the Student Chapter. The U.T. Student Chapter provided an overview of their annual report. This was followed by a presentation by University of Toledo’s Dean of the College of Engineering, Dr. Mohammad Elahinia, discussing his life experiences and how it led him to his new position at the University of Toledo. CPD hours were given for all professional members. For the meeting we had 12 professional members and 20 student members in attendance.

Also, a special congratulations to our 2024 Student Chapter Scholarship Winner Holden Cobb. Holden was a key member in leading the Student Chapter during 2024 as their president. The Toledo Section thanks Holden for his leadership and wishes him luck in future endeavors.

Tour of the Toledo Federal Courthouse

On Wednesday, February 26th, U.S. District Court Judge, Jeffrey J. Helmick led a tour of the new Federal Courthouse located in downtown Toledo. The James M. Ashley and Thomas W.L. Ashley U.S. Courthouse is being renovated after a new addition was completed. We had 16 of our members join us for the tour during their lunch hour.

"Built to Last" Meeting

On Wednesday, January 15th, 21 professionals joined us for our first “Lunch and Learn” Event of the year. Theodore Bennett, P.E., presented for us. Inspired by past, enduring projects such as the AW Bridge, Theodore looks to rediscover and teach timless design principles through his “Built to Last” Video Series.

The event was located at the Brookwood Metropark Lodge. We would like to thank everyone who came for helping us set up in a timely fashion.
