Find below information on the two project of the year nominees.
1) Lime City Bridge Over I75 - Design-build Contract (Owner: ODOT) (Contractor/Designer: Beaver Excavating, Canton & Parsons Corporation)
This project both repaired and raised the existing Lime City Road bridge over I-75, following a bridge strike by an oversized vehicle in February 2023. ODOT partnered with the city of Rossford to add two additional beams to widen the structure on the west (southbound) side to support a future multi-use path. The rebuild was able to utilize the existing bridge beams with the exception of two damaged beams from the bridge strike, which had to be replaced. The structure was raised by more than a foot, from a 14’ 9” clearance to 16’ 6’.
The project was sold as a design-build contract, where a contractor and a design firm develop and submit a single bid. Beaver Excavating, Canton, and Parsons Corporation submitted the successful bid of $7.2 million.
2) I475 Widening & US 20A Interchange (Owner: ODOT) (Contractor: Kokosing) (Designer: Arcadis)
This project had several goals to complete during construction. I-475 was completely reconstructed from the underdrains to the surface course between north of Airport Highway (State Route 2) and south of U.S. 24, and widened the interstate from two lanes to three in each direction. This means over 30 lane miles of new or reconstructed driving pavement in the five-mile corridor. The project constructed a new interchange at U.S. 20A, a long-sought addition to the area’s existing business/industrial footprint, opening the door to future development west of I-475 spanning to the Eugene F. Krantz Toledo Express Airport. A diverging diamond design was selected for its efficiency and to meet the needs of future growth. The new interchange at U.S. 20A opened Aug. 4, 2025, following a public ribbon cutting. Lastly the project included resurfacing U.S. 24 between the I-475 interchange and Dutch Road near the city of Waterville.
The overall project was $102 million. Construction began in June 2022 and completed in 2025. Kokosing Construction served as general contractor for the project.
